Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Sometimes talk therapy alone is not enough to treat deep-rooted trauma responses, especially those that have developed in early childhood or traumatic relationships. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment for trauma and PTSD that involves bilateral stimulation of the brain like eye movements or tactile stimulation. However, standard EMDR alone is sometimes not enough to treat complex, relational trauma. We use an attachment-focused approach and incorporate other modalities such as Internal Family Systems and somatic approaches to heal these relationship wounds. We also offer EMDR Intensives which are longer sessions that allow you and your therapist to move through more material per session. We often recommend EMDR to clients who make statements like “I know I deserve better, but I just don’t feel like I deserve better.” EMDR helps us to access parts of the brain that cannot be accessed with traditional therapy to help you heal in both your mind and body. If you’ve had repeated traumatic experiences in your relationships or if you’ve had difficulty making progress in therapy, EMDR might be right for you! We offer EMDR to clients in the St. Louis area or virtually anywhere in Missouri if the client and therapist determine virtual is a good fit.
